The Deutsch-Guineischer Kulturverein e.V. brings people of different backgrounds into conversation. Where people listen to one another, share experiences and act together, connections emerge between people, cultures, generations and institutions.
About us
The DGK e.V. was founded by people with roots in Guinea and Germany – out of the conviction that connection does not arise from proximity alone, but from listening, understanding and acting together. As a non-profit association based in Dortmund, we bring people of different backgrounds together and work towards a society in which everyone – regardless of origin, language, gender, religion or social situation – can take part on equal terms. A particular focus of our work is on people of African descent. At the same time, everyone who shares our goals and wants to contribute to living together well is welcome. For us, dialogue is the beginning of every connection: it builds trust, breaks down prejudice and makes cooperation possible.
Focus areas
Our work spans six core areas in which we engage locally in Dortmund and internationally in Africa.
We make the diversity of Guinean and German culture visible and create spaces for encounter and exchange.
We create spaces where people talk with each other rather than about each other. Events and discussion formats foster mutual understanding between the African community, civil society and institutions and lay the foundation for shared solutions.
We are planning projects in Guinea on drinking water supply, education, health and sustainable development.
We stand up for human rights and raise awareness of racism and discrimination in all their forms.
We empower women through knowledge, exchange and mutual support. Through workshops and shared activities, we encourage them to claim their rights and find their own paths.
In workshops and information events, we talk about everyday questions – for example about school, further education, work and social benefits. For specific questions, we put people in touch with suitable counselling services.

Leadership & structure
As a registered association under German association law, the DGK e.V. has clear bylaws, a defined membership structure, and an elected board. Our chair Oumou Diallo represents the association externally and, together with the board, is responsible for implementing the association's goals.
We are committed to transparency, democratic participation, and community-based decision-making — as required by German association law and our values.
As a member, you support the association's goals, actively shape its work and take part in the general assembly. We welcome people of different backgrounds who share our values and want to work for dialogue, diversity and social cohesion.
With your donation, you support the non-profit work of DGK e.V. and make encounters, educational programmes and projects for social participation possible. We handle the funds entrusted to us responsibly and transparently.

Our work
Our work connects culture, education, and social engagement in Dortmund. We organise encounters, information events, and projects, address socially relevant issues, and support people in making their perspectives visible. At the same time, we are active in Guinea with concrete development projects, for example in education, access to clean water, and prevention work.
In Dortmund, we work with dialogue formats, educational programmes, counselling and cultural activities.
In Guinea, we are active with concrete development projects: we support access to clean drinking water, promote educational opportunities – especially for girls – on the ground, and provide education and prevention work on the topic of female genital mutilation (FGM/C). All of this takes place in close cooperation with local partners and with consideration for cultural and social contexts.
